What families in Belgium come to us for

Families in Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent come to us having tried to recreate the Qur’an teaching they remember from Kerala and found nothing like it locally. What they get instead is a class of two to four with daily notes on what was covered and a review each term — which several tell us is more than they had back home.

In their own words

A parent in Belgium

Every week, our daughter waits for the classes to start and now within 3 months she had improved a lot in reciting surahs, dua's, adhkars, Islamic knowledge etc. To summarize, Bustan has really exceeded our expectations. Parents of Zainab

Questions parents in Belgium ask

Will the class time actually work for us?

Classes for families in Belgium usually run 4pm to 8pm Central European Time. We fix the slot with you on the trial call around school, work and your own evening — not around ours — and we move it when a school examination week arrives rather than letting the term lapse.

Which language will my child be taught in?

English. Tajwid, meaning and adab are explained in the same language as mathematics and science, so that a lesson is understood rather than simply followed. Where a child is more comfortable in Malayalam, Arabic, Hindi or Urdu we teach them in that instead, and we correspond with you in whichever you prefer.

What does it cost, and what do we pay to start?

Nothing to register and nothing for the trial class. We agree the fee with you after the trial, once we know the subjects, the batch size and how often your child will attend, because those are what it depends on.

How big is a class?

Two to four children, or one to one where that is the right arrangement. Small enough that every child reads aloud and answers out loud every time.

Is Bustan an online madrasa for families in Belgium?

If you mean live Qur'an, Tajwid, Hifz and Islamic studies with qualified teachers, that is exactly what we do and some of our parents describe us that way. But the same children also take maths, science, English and their school syllabus with us on the same timetable, so “live online school” is nearer the truth.
